Room 14 Newsletter: October 2026
*Ms. Adeyemi's 3rd Grade · Willowbrook Elementary · Leaf-Peeping Edition*
Hello, Room 14 families!
What a month! October brought crisp mornings, a classroom full of paper leaves, and a class that is finally settled into its routines. The students are more confident, more curious and a lot chattier during math talks, which I love.
Thank you for the signed folders, the pencil donations and the kind notes. They make this job a joy. Here is a look at what we have been up to and what is coming next.
This Month at a Glance
What We Learned
Reading. We read *Charlotte's Web* chapters 1 to 6 as a class and practiced "stop and jot" notes. Students learned that good readers back up their ideas with a line from the book. Our new favorite phrase is, "The text says..."
Writing. Each student wrote a personal narrative about a real moment, such as a first bike ride or a lost tooth. We worked on hooks ("Splash! I was in the lake before I knew it.") and on words like *first, next, then* and *finally*. Final drafts are on the hallway bulletin board.

The prompt
Create a Doc class newsletter from Ms. Folasade Adeyemi's 3rd grade class for October 2026. Include a hello note, what we learned in each subject, student shout-outs, upcoming dates (Oct 9 picture day, Oct 14 pumpkin patch field trip, Oct 21 family reading night, Oct 23 no school for teacher training, Oct 30 fall costume parade), how to help at home, and reminders. Friendly and parent-focused.
Make it yours
- Change the details in the prompt to fit teachers.
- For example, change it so that it is for a 6th grade science teacher at a middle school and the dates are a December science fair, a winter concert and a holiday break start.
- Ask for edits in plain words: tone, colors, length, layout or data.
- Share the result by link or export it when you are done.

Purpose
Confirm that the Tidepool Lab gallery is on track for its public opening on Saturday, June 6, 2026. We reviewed the open risks (equipment delays, the animal arrival window and staffing) and agreed who owns each next step.
Agenda
Discussion Notes
1. Fabrication status
• Three of the four touch-tank basins are sealed and leak-tested. Basin 4 is scheduled for sealing on April 21.

Predictive Maintenance Pilot for the Machining Floor
Prepared for: Executive Leadership Team · Prepared by: Dennis Achterberg, Plant Operations Manager · Date: May 4, 2026 · Decision needed by: May 12, 2026
Executive Summary
Unplanned machine stoppages cost Brannock Precision an estimated $704,000 in lost throughput in 2025. We propose a six-month pilot that places vibration and temperature sensors on our 12 highest-volume CNC machines and uses the data to flag failures days before they happen.
The total investment is $159,920. If the pilot cuts unplanned downtime by 30%, it recovers about $211,000 a year and pays for itself within ten months of going live. We are asking leadership to approve the budget and a June 1 start.
Background and Problem
Our 12 pilot machines produce 68% of plant revenue. Today we service them on fixed calendar schedules, which means we sometimes replace parts that are still healthy and miss failures that develop between inspections.
• 612 hours of unplanned downtime on these machines in 2025
• $1,150 per hour in lost throughput, overtime and expedited freight

Gillroot Farms: Business Plan 2026–2029
*Fresh gourmet mushrooms, grown indoors and delivered within 24 hours of harvest to the Twin Cities.*
Executive Summary
Gillroot Farms is a climate-controlled indoor mushroom farm that supplies independent restaurants, neighborhood grocers and subscription households in Minneapolis–St. Paul. Most mushrooms sold in Minnesota travel 1,500+ miles and arrive 5–8 days after harvest. We deliver in under 24 hours, with longer shelf life and specialty varieties that buyers can't reliably source today.
We are raising $850,000 to build out a 4,500 sq ft facility, reaching $1.46M in revenue and positive EBITDA by Year 3.
Company Description
Gillroot Farms is a Minnesota LLC with a leased, pre-inspected warehouse bay at 1840 Marshall Street NE. The facility has three-phase power, floor drains and a loading dock, which cuts build-out time to about 14 weeks. Our mission is to make local, peak-fresh specialty mushrooms as easy to buy as a case of onions.
Market Analysis
• Restaurants: about 410 independent full-service restaurants in the Twin Cities spend an estimated $6,000–$18,000 a year on specialty produce.

Dr. Lena Halvorsen, Director of Exhibits
Pelican Point Science Center

Re: Exhibit Developer, Coastal Ecosystems
Dear Dr. Halvorsen and the hiring team,
Last July I stood in your Tideline Gallery for two hours and watched a seven-year-old refuse to leave the sea star table. He wasn't being told anything. He was *noticing*: how the arms curled, why the water felt colder near the rocks, and what the empty shell meant. That is the kind of curiosity Pelican Point protects, and it is why your open Exhibit Developer role is the one I have been hoping to see. Your commitment to exhibits that visitors can touch, test and argue about, rather than read and walk past, is exactly how I learned to teach.

Offline Trail Packs
Problem statement
Cairn works well until the signal drops. In Q1 2026, 38% of support tickets (1,140 of 3,000) came from hikers whose map stopped loading mid-trail. Our current "save route" feature caches only the tiles a user has already viewed, so the map goes blank exactly where people need it most: past the trailhead, at a junction, in fog.
Competitors let users download whole regions, and 22% of churned Cairn Plus subscribers in 2025 named this gap in exit surveys.
Goals and non-goals
Goals
• Let any user download a complete region (maps, trail data, elevation profiles) in under three taps.
• Keep downloaded data fresh without manual work.
• Cut "map won't load" support tickets by at least half.
